HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION
The Health and Physical Education Learning Area focuses on the multiple dimensions of health and how these influence an individuals development. The World Health Organisation defines health as 'a state of complete mental, physical and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity'. This component of the NT Curriculum Framework (NTCF) reflects a move towards a more holistic approach to health and physical education and the importance of taking action for life. The challenge is to encourage our learners to maintain an active lifestyle that promotes health and vitality.
Being physically active is an achievable goal for all learners regardless of ability or disability. By instructing for increased activity, teachers can help learners leave school with positive attitudes towards regular participation in physical activity.
The concepts of Health and Physical Education Learning Area are organized into three strands, each making an equal contribution. The components of the strands are:
- Promoting Individual and Community Health
- Enhancing Personal Development and Relationships
- Participating in Physical Activity and Movement
OUTDOOR EDUCATION
Living Waters has perfect opportunities for outdoor education. We are situated right on the western edge of town opposite the world renowned Desert Park which we visit regularly for various activities.
We have a natural area within the school grounds situated for studying the local flora etc.
All year 2 to 6 students participate in either a bike hike, hike, or camp within the Central Australia region. Depending on the year level it may be hiking the scenic Larapinta Trail, cycling to Simpsons Gap or camping at various camping sites around Central Australia. The climate lends itself to camping out often in tents or swags. The children enjoy the outdoor activities immensely and they are often one of the highlights of their school year.
